A mordern tale

Interview / Aruallan

Lucy Sparrow makes everyday consumer products out of felt, the soft material that has textured our childhood. She exhibits thousands of her art pieces in life-size supermarkets and sells them to an audience fraught with shopping fever. This in turn gives rise to a conversation about the culture of consumption and the consumption of culture. Beyond society’s excess, we discussed the British artist’s journey through the obstacles that included all the ingredients of a modern tale: poverty, isolation, insurmountable challenges, fearlessness, courage, and the obligatory happy-ending.
